Cundall is proud to announce that the Facebook Odense Data Centre has won multiple awards at the inaugural Data Centre World (DCW) Awards 2021, including Special Contribution to Improving Energy Efficiency, and Green Data Centre of the Year.
This latest announcement brings the total number of awards won by the project to five, following the DataCloud Awards in June, where it picked up the Sustainable Data Centre Award 2021, and it also t took home two awards at the Data Centre Dynamics (DCD) Awards in late 2020.
The Facebook Odense Data Centre has set the new standard for attaining sustainability, energy efficiency and progression towards reaching zero carbon standards. Reaching these goals has been of paramount importance to Cundall; and the project will influence the way data centres are designed in the future.
The centre features a waste heat recovery system that has the capacity to recover over 165,000 MWh of heat. The site captures the excess heat generated in the data halls and recycles it into the local district, heating 11,000 homes in the Odense municipality. The facility also runs on 100% renewable wind energy as per Facebook’s commitment to using 100% renewable energy by 2020 which they have achieved.
