Alan Fogarty

I studied building services at university, which we called ‘human comfort engineering’. Learning how to control occupant comfort using both natural and mechanical means was fascinating. I have applied this knowledge in my professional life, helping develop the DfE’s BB101 Environmental standards for schools, and CIBSE's TM40 Guidance on Health and Wellbeing. I also led the implementation of the WELL Building Standard for the first certified project in Europe.

I believe that engineering is all about problem solving - the best ideas are developed in response to the challenges encountered on projects. Working with others to find creative and innovative solutions gives me huge satisfaction.

Engineering excellence is achieved through innovation. I am always looking for new ways to achieve the same objective, and not repeating an approach previously explored.
