I have over 30 years' experience designing buildings in the UK and Australia. After graduating in 1990, I became a chartered structural engineer in 1994 and a chartered building services engineer in 2008. I have been leading sustainable design teams for over 20 years, and have been privileged to work on many interesting and award-winning projects. In 2003, I was the principal author of the first Green Star rating tool in Australia. In 2008 I was Sustainability Champion of the Year at the UK Sustainable Building Services Awards, and in 2013 my book on measuring and reducing the energy and carbon footprint of buildings, ‘What Colour Is Your Building?’, was published.
Collaboration
I have served on numerous industry sustainability committees, including the British Council of Offices and Institution of Structural Engineers in the UK (2009 to 2013), and the Green Building Council of Australia’s Green Star Steering / Advisory Committees since 2015. I have chaired the Green Star Technical Advisory Committee since 2016, overseeing the development of the new suite of Green Star rating tools.
Excellence
I am currently leading ‘Zero Carbon Design 2030’, Cundall’s global design initiative launched in September 2021. My passion is to deliver zero carbon and sustainable solutions on every project I work on, or can influence, and to do this by sharing knowledge and collaborating with colleagues, clients, project teams and anyone else in the industry with a desire to make a positive impact.
