I discovered structural engineering as a teenager, in the process of completing a week of work experience across a variety of engineering disciplines. I went on to study structural engineering with architecture at The University of Sheffield, completing summer placements at Cundall throughout my degree. I find it incredibly rewarding to see a project develop from the very initial stages into a fully-formed structure, and eventually seeing it in use.
Creativity through engineering
Finding new and innovative ways to design buildings will become critical to achieving the sustainable goals we have set as a business. I believe that by questioning why design decisions are being made, we put ourselves in the best position to offer alternative, creative, solutions which reach the same outcomes.
Collaboration
I enjoy working on multi-disciplinary projects, with colleagues from other internal and external design teams. Working collaboratively to find the solutions that work for all parties is hugely satisfying, as it allows us to deliver a fully coordinated, cohesive scheme to the client, and provides the opportunity to learn about design from other people’s perspectives.
