Demonstrating the pathway forwards for our built environment, this project is an exemplar of whole-of-building sustainability. The initial design stage integrates a low carbon design which prioritises energy and carbon emission savings throughout the building’s design, construction and operational stages. Cundall’s sustainability and structural teams created the first net zero carbon building in Japan, meeting the client’s long-term sustainability goals.
Our sustainability team integrated design enhancements as one of the net zero carbon strategies. This approach generates 12% of energy through onsite renewables and reduces overall landlord operational energy usage by 44%. Simultaneously, 98.6% of waste was recycled during the building demolition. Our structural team provided added value by using digital parametric modelling to determine structural optimisation and carbon accounting. This allowed us to forecast possible carbon reduction opportunities to facilitate the decision-making process.
Joe Tang, Director, commented; "This building is located in the prime area of Higashi-Ginza where the developer hopes to influence industry peers and create a positive environmental impact on Tokyo. To achieve this, our sustainability team provided low carbon designs to CURA and helped Grosvenor create a long-lasting positive impact on today’s communities as well as future generations."
Cundall’s sustainable and structural teams provided net zero strategies to CURA and achieved Grosvenor’s sustainability target.
