Situated along the Huangpu River on the Bund, the renowned Hakkasan overlooks the picturesque waterfront and offers world-class Cantonese cuisine. The stunning interior spaces of this upscale restaurant include the main restaurant, main bar, Ling Ling Bar, and five private dining rooms. Features include a lacquered lattice of carved Chinese screens known as the “Cage” that envelopes the dining area.

Cundall worked closely with a multinational team of designers, project managers, and construction teams throughout the design and construction phases. The location of the restaurant within a century-old protected historic building required some clever engineering. This included mechanical and electrical design solutions that comply with heritage requirements while simultaneously achieving the client’s ethos of ethnic design and luxury.

Joe Tang, Director, commented, "We had the honour of embarking upon this project and creating luxurious surroundings for Hakkasan’s new restaurant in Shanghai. Working in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders, our experts, we provided clever engineering solutions including a unique lighting design that complements the interior design while also adhering to the building’s heritage requirements."
