Sydney’s Vivid festival is a landmark on the Australian cultural calendar, where art, ideas, cuisine and performance come together throughout the Sydney CBD for 23 days and nights. Substantial, interactive lighting installations bring thousands of people to the harbour foreshore at Circular Quay, The Rocks and adjacent city streets and lanes.
Our lighting team created an installation concept exploring and explaining the impact of single use plastics on the biodiversity and marine life in Australia’s oceans. Using reclaimed waste gathered by our team and their family and friends, combined with sound, lighting, visual projections and interpretive information visitors experienced the sensation of being an aquatic creature underwater in a sea of plastic.
"When planning this installation, we wanted to communicate to people the impact of single use plastics through an experience that would help them feel what it is like for marine life being engulfed in waste. The name for our exhibit, HABIT/AT reflects the theme that we have to change our habits to save our habitat." Bettina Easton, Associate.
The pervasive and persistent nature of plastic waste is a global threat to marine biodiversity.
