Xixian Orange Sky Mall

Inspired by the form of a traditional film canister, this iconic development is one of the defining new buildings shaping the identity of Xixian’s new urban landscape. Rising to 20 metres in height and with a total floor area of 35,000 sqm, this mall caters to the growing appetite for entertainment with 30 theatres, retail and food and beverage outlets.

Applying sustainability thinking to building services designs, we proposed displacement cooling systems in large volume theatres and chilled ceilings in smaller VIP theatres. We also designed a unique opaque, glazed roof to optimise natural light that incorporates specially designed exhaust scoops embedded in bounding roof to glass edges, which will support natural exhaust in large public areas via the stack effect.
