Blasts can occur due to deliberate detonation of explosive devices from terrorism threats or accidently from industrial processes or hazards. By carefully designing connections, glazing and systems, the effects of blasts on buildings, infrastructure and people can be mitigated or addressed.
We start by quantifying the risk and the likely scale of a blast. Depending upon the constraints, we then develop a range of approaches for protection against its effects. This can include security measures such as vehicle security barrier (VSB) systems to keep vehicles away from buildings and crowds, as well as subtle, low-cost changes to the structure and facades of buildings to enhance blast performance.
